The older lady (owner? the grumpy lady who doesn't like children) approached me and informed me that walkers were not permitted in the store. She attempted to justify her illegal behavior by claiming the store was overcrowded.

After a devastating fire destroyed many of the frame houses on Main Street in 1879, this stone structure was built. Until 1885, Bergtholdt maintained a farm implement agency in the south portion. Henry Riesen and David Dyck founded a hardware store in that year. Curt Riesen and Albert Dyck, the store's sons, ran it until 1936. The structure withstood a tornado in 1910 as well as several severe floods.
